The Candida Diet – Taking Responsibility For Your Health

In the final months of 2011 I was experiencing a rash that was starting to develop on the sole of my right foot. I tried a few over the counter products, foot itch and fungus type creams but the rash was starting to turn a deeper red. Towards the end of December I was experiencing uncomfortable flares of itching, usually at night, and suddenly within a week my foot flared up to the point of blistering with disgusting looking welts and scabs. The problem was out of my control, so I sought the advice of Sharon Tal of Melbourne Kinesiology and Detox Centre, a registered NAET allergy practitioner.
Sharon diagnosed the problem as a candida infection, where the candida yeast organism was becoming an overgrowth on the sole of my foot. We then discussed factors that could have led to this outbreak and what we pinpointed was my eating habits, particularly my love of donuts, sugary bread and milky drinks that I would buy on my way to and from work almost daily from the convenience store. Over the last 6 months, my addiction to this type of eating had gotten out of control, and now my body was trying to wake me up. I would literally leave work in the late afternoon, pick up an 8 pack of Krispy Kreme’s at the servo, and devour half before I pulled up at my house. I was admittedly at a low point.
Using the NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques), we cleared the candida from my body, but I was subsequently recommended to stay on a strict candida diet to cut out my sugar, yeast, gluten, dairy and alcohol intake. It was time to say goodbye to the donuts and take responsibility for my health.
I was committed to the process, as I sincerely wanted to improve my condition. Usually after this type of treatment, a week or so was recommended to stay on the candida diet. However Sharon’s guidance advised me to stay on it longer. In total I ended up doing the diet for almost a month.
The first 5 or 6 days were fine. I felt I had no problems with the process and planning my meals accordingly so there wouldn’t be the excuse to slip up. It was only after the 7th or 8th day that deep psychological and emotional craving started to emerge. I knew instinctively that the way I had been eating was covering up some deeper emotional feelings within me, and only by confronting myself and my addiction would I be able to overcome this and get to the root of the problem on all levels; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. As Sharon had told me, it was the choice between “a quick fix, or a deeper emotional healing”.
I continued throughout the month on the diet. My energy levels improved, and I combined this with a Detox Foot Spa, which worked to extricate the candida from my body through a process of osmosis and electrolosis. I felt less sluggish, and didn’t need the 10 hours of sleep I often felt I needed. I watched in interest as strange, deep and unexplainable emotions started to float to the surface in need of expression, and I processed them by allowing myself to fully be in the experience and not suppress it, no matter how uncomfortable or triggered I felt to “run for a donut”. I lost a little bit of weight, but in no way was this part of my goal, just a byproduct of the process. I felt better and proud of myself for being willing to do the diet and commit to it.
Keeping a photo log I watched as the welts and scabs disappeared from my foot and slowly the rough skin started to exfoliate away. Now after 2 months, I am eating normally again and my condition has almost entirely cleared up. I still eat a donut now and then, but I am careful to monitor myself and also to monitor my emotional state before I reach for the donut, acknowledging what I’m truly feeling and what emotion I’m either trying to suppress or escape from.
